  • All of the infrahyoid muscles are innervated by the ansa cervicalis from the cervical plexus (C1-C3) except the thyrohyoid muscle, which is innervated by fibers only from the first cervical spinal nerve travelling with the hypoglossal nerve.
  • Nerve to thyrohyoid - fibres from C1 that run with the hypoglossal nerve (cranial nerve XII) and do not participate in the formation of the superior root of ansa cervicalis, instead continuing for some further distance to reach and innervate the thyrohyoid muscle and the geniohyoid muscle.
  • A pair of cyclopentadienyl ligands can be covalently linked giving rise to so-call ansa metallocenes.
  • The subthalamic nucleus receives its main input from the external globus pallidus (GPe), not so much through the ansa lenticularis as often said but by radiating 'comb' fibers crossing the medial pallidum first and the internal capsule (forming part of Edinger's comb system, see figure), as well as the ansa subthalamica.
  • The ansa cervicalis (or ansa hypoglossi in older literature) is a loop formed by muscular branches of the cervical plexus formed by branches of cervical spinal nerves C1-C3.
  • The sternothyroid muscle receives motor innervation from branches of the ansa cervicalis (ultimately derived from cervical spinal nerves C1-C3).
  • The superior layer is named the ansa lenticularis, and its fibers, derived from the medullary lamina of the lentiform nucleus, pass medially to end in the thalamus and subthalamic region, while others are said to end in the tegmentum and red nucleus.
  • The subclavian nerve may issue a branch called the accessory phrenic nerve The accessory phrenic nerve may rather branch from the C4 or C6 segments or ansa cervicalis.
  • The ansa lenticularis (ansa lentiformis in older texts) is a part of the brain, making up the superior layer of the substantia innominata.
  • Superficial to the carotid sheath lies the hypoglossal nerve, and ansa cervicalis of the cervical plexus.
  • The motor branches of spinal nerves include: ansa cervicalis, dividing into a superior root, C-1, and an inferior root, C-2 and C-3, and the phrenic nerve, C-3 to C-5, the segmental nerve branches, C-1 to C-5.
  • The inferior cervical cardiac nerve arises from the stellate ganglion (cervicothoracic gangion), or from the ansa subclavia of the cervical sympathetic trunk.
  • They share numerous plesiomorphic traits – for example at least one areola in the forewing, a hammer-shaped ansa of the tympanal organ and the lack of a gnathos – with the Sterrhinae which are either somewhat less distant from other geometer moths or are part of the same distinct lineage; the Lythriini were until recently placed in the Larentiinae but are apparently Sterrhinae.
  • These fibers connect with the fibers of the ansa lenticularis in the field H of Forel to form the thalamic fasciculus.
