  • Brophy is an Irish surname of ancient origin, which is derived from the Irish "Uí Bhróithe" or "Ó Bróithe" septs that were located mostly around Ballybrophy, Laois, and in counties Carlow and Kilkenny.
  • There are two week-day trains (early morning and early evening) from Castleconnell towards Ballybrophy (via Birdhill, Nenagh, Cloughjordan and Roscrea).
  • The line was extended to Killaloe on 12 April 1862 and became a junction when the line was further extended from Birdill to Nenagh on 1 June 1864 by the Great Southern & Western Railway creating a through route to Limerick via Ballybrophy.
  • The first set travels to Ballybrophy serving Cloughjordan and Roscrea for connecting Dublin-Cork mainline services, and the second set forms the commuter service to Limerick serving Birdhill, Castleconnell and Limerick.
