  • As an apex predator equipped with dozens of large, sharp teeth, Daspletosaurus was at the top of the food chain, probably preying on large dinosaurs like the ceratopsid Centrosaurus and the hadrosaur Hypacrosaurus.
  • Despite being used for decades as the iconic duckbill dinosaur, the material it is based on is composed of teeth from both duckbills and ceratopsids (their teeth have a distinctive double root), and its describer, Joseph Leidy, came to recognize the difference and suggested limiting the genus to what would now be seen as ceratopsid teeth.
  • Jackson's chameleon is sometimes called the three-horned chameleon because males possess three brown horns: one on the nose (the rostral horn) and one above each superior orbital ridge above the eyes (preocular horns), somewhat reminiscent of the ceratopsid dinosaur genus Triceratops.
  • This segues into a sequence set in prehistoric times, where the ceratopsid from earlier and a large theropod wearing a bow tie meet with Ronald and Nancy Reagan, as a bizarre, pig-nosed mammal eats an egg and reads a newspaper, and John Rambo hovers in the background.
  • It has had a confusing history, being considered both a hadrosaurid and a ceratopsid, or both at the same time (chimeric).
  • In the same article Marsh renamed Bison alticornis, his misidentification of ceratopsid material for a giant bovid, into Ceratops alticornis.
  • The skull bore a pair of long brow horns like those seen in the Ceratopsidae, although Turanoceratops appears to have been transitional between earlier ceratopsians and ceratopsids, and not a ceratopsid itself.
  • As a ceratopsid, Polyonax would have been a large, quadrupedal herbivore, with brow and nasal horns and a neck frill.
  • These include a unique specimen of the Chinese sauropod Euhelopus zdanskyi and a cast of the Berlin specimen of Archaeopteryx lithographica, as well as the ceratopsid dinosaur Pentaceratops sternbergi and a skull of the hadrosaurid Parasaurolophus tubicen, the two latter genera both named by Wiman.
  • Kosmoceratops was a chasmosaurine ceratopsid and was originally suggested to be closely related to Vagaceratops (which also had forward-curving epiossifications on the back of the frill) but this has been debated, some authors finding the latter closer to Chasmosaurus.
  • Bravoceratops is a genus of large chasmosaurine ceratopsid dinosaur that lived approximately 70 million years ago, and is known from the Late Cretaceous Javelina Formation in what is now Texas, United States.
  • Martin Lockley and Adrian Hunt named the new ichnogenus and ichnospecies Ceratopsipes goldenensis, interpreting it as fossilized ceratopsid footprints.
  • This would be similar to modern horned bovids, but unlike ceratopsid dinosaurs, and indeed other archosauromorphs, which do not appear to have been dimorphic.
  • Other animals found in this area include the contemporary basal hadrosaurid Aquilarhinus, the lambeosaurine Angulomastacator, the pachycephalosaur Texacephale, the ceratopsid Agujaceratops, a dromaeosaurid similar to Saurornitholestes, and the giant alligatoroid Deinosuchus.
