  • Topo Volcanic Complex - predominantly built of basalt, hawaiite, and mugearite lavas and pyroclastic deposits and Strombolian cinder cones.
  • Basaltic trachyandesite is transitional to basalt and likewise comes in two varieties, mugearite (sodium-rich) and shoshonite (potassium-rich).
  • Basalt flows and smaller amounts of trachyte, tristanite, trachybasalt, benmoreite and mugearite produced during the second stage about 1 million years ago comprise Ice Peak, the glacially eroded remains of a stratovolcano in the form of a pyramid-shaped horn.
  • Its composition is more diverse, consisting of alkali basalt, hawaiite, trachybasalt, tristanite, mugearite, benmoreite, trachyte and rhyolite which are in the form of lava flows and rock fragments.
  • The volcanic complex occupies the eastern part of the island and consists of basalt lavas, hawaiite and mugearite (aa) lavas, from explosive pyroclastic rocks and cinder cones originating from Strombolian eruptions.
  • The lavas from Guide are mostly alkalic basalt, hawaiite, mugearite with some pyroclastic flows near the top of the summit.
  • Samples recovered from Gumdrop are highly vesicular in origin, and include alkalic basalt, hawaiite, and mugearite; however, their ages have yet to be determined.
  • The volcano erupted a wide variety of lavas including basanite, hawaiite, phonolite, mugearite, benmoreite and trachyte, as well as small amounts of basaltic andesite and basaltic trachyandesite.
  • The Meidob volcanic field has erupted basalt, basanite, hawaiite as well as benmoreite, mugearite, phonolite and trachyte, forming an alkaline suite of volcanic rocks.
  • The basalts are characterized by alkali basalts and basanite and form about 80% of all volcanic rocks in Atakor, with less important occurrences of benmoreite, hawaiite, mugearite and rhyolite.
  • Volcanic rocks dredged from Vesteris include basanite as the major component, phonotephrite and tephrite but also alkali basalt, mugearite and trachybasalt.
  • Mafic rocks have been reported from flank vents, basanite and hawaiite from Mefford Knoll, benmoreite from the southeastern flank at Wedemeyer Rocks, phonotephrite from Brandenberger Bluff, and mugearite without any particular locality.
  • The sodic series evolves through hawaiite or nepheline hawaiite through mugearite or nepheline mugearite and benmoreite or nepheline benmoreite to trachyte or phonolite.
  • Volcanic rocks of intermediate composition such as benmoreite, trachybasalt, mugearite and tristanite were produced in relatively small volumes; they were the result of alkali basaltic magma having pooled in large subterranean magma chambers on a shorter timespan.
  • These rocks are overlain by Pliocene alkali basalt flows of the Nido Formation which are in turn overlain by Pleistocene alkali basalt, hawaiite, tristanite, trachybasalt and mugearite flows and pyroclastic breccia of the Ice Peak Formation.
  • Overlying the Pyramid Formation is Pleistocene alkali basalt, hawaiite and minor tristanite, trachybasalt and mugearite of the lower assemblage of the Ice Peak Formation which are in the form of lava flows and pyroclastic breccia.
