• Birds include toucans, pionus parrots, Brazilian tanager (Ramphocelus bresilius), solitary tinamou (Tinamus solitarius), black hawk-eagle (Spizaetus tyrannus), brown-backed parrotlet (Touit melanonotus), penelopes and black-fronted piping guan (Pipile jacutinga).
• Birds described in 1885 include semicollared flycatcher, Palawan hornbill, blue bird-of-paradise, lesser lophorina, brown sicklebill, Comoros cuckooshrike, Cozumel vireo, Indochinese green magpie, three-streaked tchagra, Lawes's parotia, Turquoise-winged parrotlet.
• There are several near-endemic species, including the Mexican parrotlet (Forpus cyanopygius), rufous-bellied chachalaca (Ortalis wagleri), and San Blas jay (Cyanocorax sanblasianus).
