  • In 1965, it merged with Wanstead and Woodford, also incorporating parts of neighbouring districts, to form the London Borough of Redbridge, part of Greater London.
  • The name derives from a corruption of Sayers brook, a tributary of the River Roding that flows through Wanstead to the East.
